At the heart of our coalition is a simple, powerful promise:

Community Services

We believe that a community is strongest when its members are connected by care, safety, and a shared commitment to the land we call home. Our mission goes beyond advocacy; it is about rolling up our sleeves to ensure every neighbor feels secure, supported, and heard.

Fire Prevention & Neighborhood Safety

In Partnership with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection

Our hills are beautiful, but they require our stewardship to stay safe. We’ve joined forces with Brett Taylor and the experts at Truckee Meadows Fire Protection to create a program that protects our homes and our lives by proactively managing fuels and brush.

Seeking Support: Keeping Every Home Safe

We are here for you.

We know that sometimes the tasks required to keep a home fire-safe—like clearing heavy brush, limbing trees, or managing yard fuels—can be overwhelming or physically impossible to do alone. No one in New Washoe City should have to live in fear because they lack the resources or the physical ability to clear their property.

If you are a senior, a person with a disability, or simply facing a season of life where you need a helping hand, please reach out. This program is built on the love we have for our neighbors; there is no shame in asking for help, only strength in coming together. Let our volunteers support you in creating a safe perimeter around your home so we can all sleep a little easier.

Lend Your Strength and Machinery to Protect Our Neighborhood

We are looking for neighbors who are ready to roll up their sleeves and put their equipment to work for a good cause! To support our mission alongside Truckee Meadows Fire Protection, we specifically need volunteers with tractors and bush hoggers, as well as folks who can help drag brush from properties out to the street for removal.

This is a coordinated effort to create life-saving defensible space for those in our community who need it most.

Requirements:

  • Equipment: Tractors, bush hoggers, and sturdy gloves.
  • Safety First: All volunteers must sign a waiver of liability prior to starting work.
  • Spirit: A willingness to work hard for the safety of our hills.

Washoe Valley

The Living Experiment:

A Pilot Program for Sustainable Fire Prevention

We are looking for one visionary Washoe Valley resident with a 10-acre parcel to participate in a groundbreaking "living experiment." This study will help us and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection (TMFP) determine the most effective, long-term way to keep our valley safe from fire.

The Study:

  • The Biological Side: In the spring, a herd of sheep and goats will be brought in to naturally clear five acres of the property.
  • The Mechanical Side: TMFP will clear the remaining five acres using traditional fire prevention methods.
  • The Goal: TMFP will monitor both sections to see which side grows back faster or denser. This data will be used to secure future grants to fund sheep and goat clearing as a permanent, sustainable solution for our community.

If you have 10 acres and want to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of fire safety in Nevada, we want to hear from you.
